Like I mentioned before, I watched a lot of you tube videos in the beginning. I watched Bunny Berry but, she really didn’t have a lot of recipes. I started watching Dan the Man. The Life Regenerator. I started watching him because he had a really good salsa recipe and he’s so passionate about raw vegan. The first night I made supper it was actually Dan’s salsa with zucchini and cucumber chips. He talks a lot about eating watery fruit in the morning and then working your way up to veggies throughout the day. It works for him. I only watched a few videos by this time as well. I ate a whole watermelon for breakfast, then an orange, an apple, a cantaloupe… I just kept eating. I couldn’t stop. I was not satisfied. I ate watery fruit and drank my Pepsi replacing water all day long. Oh, and I went pee a lot. I didn’t think I could stay on this. I wasn’t feeling satisfied. I made spinach salad for supper, cauliflower popcorn for after supper snack… Hang on I’ll eat some seed cheese. I feel better… hmmm… Do I have to eat a lot of nuts and seed to feel full? But Dan the Man said not to eat a lot of nuts. But, I can’t just eat the fruit and veggies!! I’m not full on them. Ever! Ok, I guess I need to eat a lot of nuts and seeds. I made a dehydrated bread to eat the seed cheese on. I soaked almonds to snack on. I ate pretty much nuts and veggies and a little bit of fruit the next day. I felt fuller but I didn’t have a lot of energy at all… Ugh, maybe I’m not cut out for this… Maybe, I need to wait a little longer. I started making stuff like raw veggie burgers in the dehydrator. Raw veggie spaghetti sauce with walnut meatballs and raw zucchini noodles. Marinated mushrooms and zucchini. I ate “transition food” until the cows came home. (Transition food- food usually high in nuts that mimics food that you eat on the SAD diet. Ie. Raw spaghetti sauce with walnut meatballs and zucchini noodles.) I was trying to go back to the feeling I had when I went for supper at Paul and Beate’s.
I found out why Dan said not to eat a lot of nuts. Nuts bung you up… If you don’t know what that means… They’re a lot like cheese. Oh my goodness!!!! Get me some plums!! This is terrible. What am I doing wrong? I started searching the internet again. Carbs. One simple word. But it changed my life.
You need carbs to feel full and also to fuel your body. I was staying away from the carbs because in the SAD diet, carbs is a bad word. What’s a carb in the raw vegan diet though? A banana… A date... A mango… I made myself a “smoothie” in the magic bullet. I threw in a banana, a date, and an apple. Oh yeah, that’s the ticket. I’m full…. Watch out, get out of my way! I’m cleaning the house!! Energy!! Wonderful! Carbs! Who would have guessed? Since I made this discovery, I start my day with a banana or two. I might throw in some other fruit, but bananas are my staple food. If I don’t have them around, I start to panic lol. I don’t eat nuts everyday now and I certainly do not eat as much when I do as I did in those first few days. They are still in my diet as they have their purpose. I still watch Dan the Man’s videos. He’s a great guy with a great message. Anyone who spends that much time promoting a healthy lifestyle cannot be a bad person :)
